The fear of missing God is, in all likelihood, something we've all expressed. While those words sound valid, they're, really, a lie from our enemy. It's a lie designed to entrap us in fear. What's the initial reaction of a deer or a squirrel when you happen upon it in the woods? They freeze. Out of fear, they become immobile. Too many times we fall prey to the lie that we might miss God if we take the wrong step and, so, we take no step- we are frozen in fear. The enemy has successfully immobilized us. As a result, what you were supposed to do is, either, delayed or God finds someone else to do it.
The simple truth is, God is too big to miss.
If we believe we can miss God, then 1) our perception of God is too small, 2) we are lacking in our trust in His ability to place our feet as we simply make the choice to pick them up, 3) we doubt His ability to direct our path. Believing we could miss God, as Lisa Bevere puts in it "Godmothers", "...changes the focus to our ability to follow rather than His ability to lead". When did it become about me? When did it become based on my abilities? When did I move from walking by the Spirit to walking by the flesh? Because, if my focus is on my ability to "hit or miss" God, then my focus has turned inward and is no longer upward.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5) There's freedom in that scripture. I don't have to try to figure it out. All I have to do is trust God to get me where He wants me to be. When I trust God, when I lean on Him, rest in Him, following Him will be automatic. And, remember, God's not looking for perfect children- David, Paul, Peter, Abraham and so many more are proof of that. He's just looking for a willing heart. Many years ago Patsy Clairmont wrote a book called "God Uses Cracked Pots". I can assure you, I have plenty of cracks, but He's using me anyway. We all have cracks, but, like you love your Grandmother's china even though there's a chip in it, God loves us and doesn't see the imperfections.
So, when you suspect God is asking you to do something, DO IT! Doing the wrong thing with the right heart is never a problem for God- it shows your willingness to obey and He will bless your efforts. So, pick up your loaded bow, pull back that arrow and let it fly! God is too big to miss!
